A New Semester, New Opportunities

January 14th, 2010 by Jamie Knowles

Well three weeks of break sounds like a long time, but once its over… it doesn’t sound so long anymore! But either way we’re back at BBC, and a new semester is already underway! The first week of a new semester is probably more intimidating than the rest of the semester turns out to be. Basically you go to the first class for all of your new classes, the professor reads through the syllabus, and you learn all the crazy assignments that are going to be required of you for that year. I think the first week of this semester has probably been the most overwhelming of the four I have had here, but I keep on reminding myself that the homework isn’t all due at once, and that I’m gonna be fine.

I’m working on personal discipline this semester. One of my professors has stressed over and over again that our effectiveness in ministry is directly linked to our personal disciplines. Whether it be a consistent devotional life, getting up at the same time every day, or time management, a ministry leader needs to have strong personal discipline. So I have set strengthening my personal discipline as one of my goals for the semester. Which reading through each syllabus reminds me of the opportunities that God is giving me to prove myself in those areas. So as overwhelming as this first week has been, it’s also a reminder of the opportunities I’m being given by God -and I think that’s pretty exciting!
